Built for the Built Environment

fd2s helps organizations convey brands through experiences.

We occupy a unique place in the world of branding and design studios. When our three founders launched fd2s (then Fuller Dyal & Stamper) nearly four decades ago, they brought individual expertise in architecture, design, and marketing communications. The result was an industry-defining studio able to create and deploy brands that excel at telling compelling stories in the built environment.

Today, a new generation of leaders continues to build on our founders’ experience-oriented approach to brand development and take it in exciting new directions. We’re leaders in the fields of wayfinding, signage, and experiential design, as well as experts in creating new brands for organizations that communicate with audiences through places.

Celebrating 40 Years of Leadership & Legacy.

At the close of last year, fd2s bid farewell to one of its founders, Steven Stamper, who is now enjoying a well-earned retirement. For more than 40 years, Steven has been a guiding force in experiential graphic design and wayfinding, helping to shape not only our firm, but also the profession itself.

Steven’s career has been defined by quiet innovation and steady leadership. Long before accessibility became a widespread mandate, he developed a digital font system that could seamlessly convert typeset text into Grade 2 Braille – setting a new standards for inclusion.

He has given generously of his time and expertise to the Society for Experiential Graphic Design, serving as President, Board Member, Awards Chair, Annual Conference Co-chair, and design jury critic. And his imprint is visible in some of the most complex healthcare environments in the county, from the Texas Medical Center and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to world-class facilities at Duke, UCSF, Michigan Medicine, and beyond.

But if you ask Steven what he is most proud of, his answer is simple: the people. That humility and care for others have always been at the heart of Steven’s leadership. His colleagues will tell you that he is the steady hand, the quiet voice of reason, and the person who never loses sight of what matters most.

As Steven steps into this new chapter, we celebrate his remarkable career, his countless contributions, and above all, the enduring culture he helped create at fd2s. His legacy lives on in the projects we design, the clients we serve, and the colleagues he has mentored along the way.

“I’m gratified by the reputation we enjoy as a result of our many successful collaborations with a long list of well-respected clients. At the end of the day, though, I have always been as concerned about properly supporting our staff and making sure we keep the lights on.”
